Badour 45rpm

late last year while in Tokyo we chanced upon a shop 45rpm stocking a beautiful range of mens and womens wear in natural fabrics, indigo died garments and raw indigo denims.  The current seasonal lookbook continues their amazing natural taste with ethnic, oriental influence and details.

Lovely Lucy

One of my favourite bloggers; the lovely Lucy at The Design Files,
has blogged about MAIIKEstore!  AWESOME!!

warm words nice night

""
It was fitting that a on such a cold night as last Friday, Maiike opened it’s nice warm doors to celebrate the opening of the labels first retail shop.
A joint venture between Aly Peel and Feride Peel, the store itself is warm, inviting and beautiful to cosy up in.  Cleverly put together from an empty shell (in a whirlwind matter of months) and carrying on the unique theme of the brand. From floorboards that were pulled from a tired old house, to recycled furniture and mismatched ornaments. It’s the type of place where everything has tactile appeal- the toys lined up like soldiers in the window, to the funky little rompers and even adult sized wears- and an abundance of small children adorning the floor space (not a permanent fixture).

Nice words by: Meg Hutchens who interviewed me on the opening night of our shop.

MAIIKEstore...

...has opened it's door, which is located at 54 Church St, Hawthorn...but don't get confused with Church St, Richmond because they are unrelated.

More Moore

Wednesday night we had the chance to go see Tim Moore's opening
at Helen Gory gallery for his new body of work 'Made Up Fish'.
Tim is a friend from Sydney who makes peculiar embroideries on vintage
sicilian linen
inspired by  magazines from the 'special interest' section.
Here are two of his older works - it's worth going to see the
meticulous needle work in person.

Beci Orpin Exhibition

It's good to add interesting events happening in town...which I never do since I'm always running a few months behind.  I thought I'd try to be on time with this one.  I'm really excited about seeing Beci Orpin's new exhibition opening at Lamington Drive tonight.  I'll have to wait till the weekend to see since it's pilates night but excited none the less.

Wednesday Blogs

Hi,

Every Wednesday, starting from today, I will be blogging as a guest. I would like to show scenes from the Maiike Studio. Soft things in process & in transit. I will also update Flicker slide shows. First up is the 'Quilts' from the photo shoot Thuy did at our place. I am not much of a writer so there will be lots of photos... Enjoy.

Japan: 2

In Tokyo, Khiem made some new friends. Check out the full Maiike outfit in the 2nd image!

Japan: 1

We went off to Japan in November. It was just starting to feel like winter. Ugg Boots were everywhere. We walked the back streets a lot. The top photo is from Cow Books in Naka Meguro. They sell a lot of art/photography books including 'out off print', 'hard to find' books but what I liked the most was the hidden coffee machine behind the counter. I think the other two photos are from Kyoto, near Kyoto Station. We didn't catch any public transport at all in Kyoto. We hired some old bikes and got a baby seat attached and just cycled around for a couple of days.
