MAIIKEstore...

...has opened it's door, which is located at 54 Church St, Hawthorn...but don't get confused with Church St, Richmond because they are unrelated.

More Moore

Wednesday night we had the chance to go see Tim Moore's opening
at Helen Gory gallery for his new body of work 'Made Up Fish'.
Tim is a friend from Sydney who makes peculiar embroideries on vintage
sicilian linen
inspired by  magazines from the 'special interest' section.
Here are two of his older works - it's worth going to see the
meticulous needle work in person.

Beci Orpin Exhibition

It's good to add interesting events happening in town...which I never do since I'm always running a few months behind.  I thought I'd try to be on time with this one.  I'm really excited about seeing Beci Orpin's new exhibition opening at Lamington Drive tonight.  I'll have to wait till the weekend to see since it's pilates night but excited none the less.

Wednesday Blogs

Hi,

Every Wednesday, starting from today, I will be blogging as a guest. I would like to show scenes from the Maiike Studio. Soft things in process & in transit. I will also update Flicker slide shows. First up is the 'Quilts' from the photo shoot Thuy did at our place. I am not much of a writer so there will be lots of photos... Enjoy.

Easter Eggs

Almost easter again. Last easter we painted our hard-boiled eggs and rubbed them with oil for a nice shine. This year Oma is feeling tired so we are all going to learn how to make the pierags on Sunday, to be frozon until easter.

Japan: 2

In Tokyo, Khiem made some new friends. Check out the full Maiike outfit in the 2nd image!

Japan: 1

We went off to Japan in November. It was just starting to feel like winter. Ugg Boots were everywhere. We walked the back streets a lot. The top photo is from Cow Books in Naka Meguro. They sell a lot of art/photography books including 'out off print', 'hard to find' books but what I liked the most was the hidden coffee machine behind the counter. I think the other two photos are from Kyoto, near Kyoto Station. We didn't catch any public transport at all in Kyoto. We hired some old bikes and got a baby seat attached and just cycled around for a couple of days.

Where Has The Time Gone

The most beautiful sunny Saturday and I'm here at the studio trying to get on top of the over-due orders from Kids In Style! Sorry to all those left waiting. Thanks to the website that I stole this image from (hhhmmm, was it Babyology? or LMNOP?....or maybe Brooke from Magnolia Square took this one).

KIS (Kids In Style) ME

I joined the exhibitors at Kids In Style (Life In Style) a couple of weeks ago. It was a whole new kind of experience. I was there for 5 days plus set-up day and it ran over the weekend. By the time I finished I felt like I had been in a time warp and lost a week.....but gained a whole lot of orders!

A Few Days In Sydney

I'm just back from 6 days in Sydney and the first Magnolia Square event at Randwick. As I've said many a time, I'm a slow blogger....hence the post-event information!
I was nicely positioned in front of the entrance (lucky me) and right next to Belinda from Baobab. Belinda was a great neighbour, who brought in hoards of loyal repeat customers. I picked up a really cool summer weight hoody for Khiem! Then I had to find something for Thuy...luckily the Real Chai lady was nearby!
The media breakfast on Friday morning was fun; not least because I was awarded the LMNOP 'favourite' or was it 'loves' award? It was VERY exciting to finally win an award. Jenny and Ian from LMNOP were lovely. A trip to Sydney means you get to put faces to names, since that's where EVERYONE seems to be! I was thinking about that as our plane decended down into the clouds to Melbourne airport on Sunday afternoon and I started to shiver!
